At 2:30 AM this morning, our dedicated news server underwent a memory upgrade to further increase system performance. No other systems were effected during this 15 minute maintenance period.

Special Holiday Greeting

Since you may be away from the computer for awhile spending time with friends and family, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Tuesday, December 19

This evening, Dec 19th, UUNET will be deploying a major change to our BGP routing configuration. This action will affect every router on the backbone. This change will improve the robustness of UUNET's network and the underlying routing infrastructure which supports it.

Thursday, December 14

Installed! At 12:00 A.M., we increased the modem pool in Hattiesburg by 62% to help meet increased demand for our analog dialup service. With this upgrade and the ones to follow, there should be sufficient capacity to ensure customer dialup capabilities. Look to this page in the future for more information on our upgrade plans.

Our Jackson POP will also have additional dialup facilities completed by December 16 to further the expansion of the Network Operations Center. Be sure to look here for late breaking news on our ISDN specials in both locations in the weeks following the new year.

Friday, December 8

In our Hattiesburg POP, you may have noticed when attempting to login on Thursday night, December 7, the phone lines rang but did not answer. Our friends at BellSouth inadvertently unbusied our new lines prior to us installing the additional modem banks. Due to timely customer notification, we were able to inform the phone company about this problem and have it corrected during the night.

In the future, if you believe there is a problem please call our Network Operations Center (NOC) at 800.952.1570. Technicians are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer any support questions you may have.

Sunday, December 3

Additional lines in our Hattiesburg POP will be installed sometime later in the week of December 4. This upgrade should help keep us ahead of the increased demand for our dialup analog and ISDN service.

We are pleased to announce another local dialup. Meridian, MS becomes the third city in twice as many weeks with local access numbers to Internet Doorway. Once again, Internet Doorway takes a leap ahead of the competition by announcing the availability of dialup and dedicated ISDN to the Hattiesburg, MS area. With the help of Lance Computer Systems, we were able to complete installation and testing in just one day. Special thanks goes to James and Scott in providing the remote support.

Our service provider UUNET, will perform maintenance on one of the routers that connects us to the Internet and will be rebooted to enable some configuration changes around 10:00 AM EST. We may experience an outage of up to 30 minutes during this service window.

Thursday, November 9

Due to a defective data drive, the news server will be unavailable for the next day. Two new drives have been ordered to replace this drive which should make the news server faster and more reliable.

Sunday, November 5

After detection of periodic line problems during the day, BellSouth was contacted to test the line. If you were online in the Hattiesburg POP during this period you may have noticed a period of inactivity and packet loss. To correct the problem all data traffic had to be stopped for 30 minutes to allow for accurate detection of the problem per BellSouth's policy. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

Saturday, November 4

Internet Doorway Announces New Pricing Structure

Active November 1, 1995, there will be a general price reduction for Full Access accounts and a newly created University Access discount. Individuals and organizations who have purchased a Quarterly Subscription before October 31st will receive a FREE month as part of the new pricing structure. Wednesday, November 1

A failed repeater in what BellSouth calls the "underground" caused our Hattiesburg network to be down this afternoon. BellSouth was able to correct the problem by 4:48 PM and restore our communications link. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused. Saturday, October 28

There will be a facilities upgrade at our Hattiesburg POP on Sunday, October 29 between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM. During this maintenance window, both our terminal servers and router will be rebooted causing online connections to be lost. There will be a significant performance boost with this upgrade.

Friday, October 27

NEWS FLASH! Marshall Morgan, President of Internet Doorway, will be on ETV Friday, October 27 at 7:30 PM on Mississippi Business Today. This interview discusses the business opportunities available on the Internet, and how Mississippi Internet Service Providers (ISP) can help in this new medium. A replay of the show will also be on ETV at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, November 1. Be sure to watch.

Wednesday, October 25

Additional lines were installed in our Hattiesburg POP, but the hunting (rollover) was not functioning properly over the past week. The solution is scheduled for today.

Look at these announcements for our new regional pricing to start the 1st of November. Included with this reduction in price are student and faculty discounts for educational institutions and our same great service and support.

Wednesday, October 4

Demand for Internet Doorway's new Hattiesburg area service has outpaced our initial expectations. In response to great demand, we have ordered 10 additional dial-up lines, scheduled to be installed by Monday, the 9th of October. BellSouth has advised us, however, that delays may be expected if heavy line damage results from the hurricane. Internet Doorway is committed to providing its members with reliable and consistent access, and will make every effort to do so. We appreciate your patience during this upgrade of services and welcome your suggestions on how we can better serve you.
