On September 28, 1995 at 08:00am we will be upgrading the mail system.

Please note: NO e-mail will be lost. All e-mail will be transfered to the new system and will take from 20 to 30 minutes.

This change will not only improve the e-mail system, it will also eliminate the need for multiple passwords. Once we have completed this upgrade you will only need one password for your pop-mail account, dialup login, and shell account. The password you use for retrieving your e-mail will now be the same as your dialup and shell account.

If you experience any problems in retrieving your e-mail or logging in after this change, please let us know immediately. If you have any questions concerning this upgrade, please send e-mail to support@netdoor.com or call 601-952-1570.

During the scheduled replacement of two battery backups, several systems were taken off-line to facilitate an upgrade. While these machines were coming back online, an error occurred on the news server's data partition. The partition had to be reconstructed to fix the problem. All posting made previously were not effected. It will take approximately two days for articles to accumulate on the server.

The larger Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) will help ensure that when the power flickers at our office, your connection will not.

Sunday, September 3

The News server will go down for upgrades at 1am, and will be down for approximately 4 hours. During this time you will be unable to connect. All posting made previously will not be effected by this upgrade. Once the news server is back online, it will take approximately two days for articles to accumulate.

No other services will be effected by this downtime.

As you probably know from experience, busy signals have never been a part of Internet Doorway's service. However, we have detected that South Central Bell's telephone roll-over service was not working properly at certain times, resulting in occasional unnecessary busy signals. We have alerted South Central Bell's repair service of the situation and are currently working with them to solve the translation and trunking problems. We regret any inconvenience that this may have caused you; if in the future you detect any problems or have suggestions, please don't hesitate to inform us.

On July 21 Internet Doorway established a separate machine to support member WWW services and Unix shell accounts. This change will make it easier for members to setup and update their home pages. We have designated the new host "www2.netdoor.com" to be the web server for our member home pages. This new name is currently in place so users personal home pages are now accessible via the URL "http://www2.netdoor.com/~yourid/".
More details on Web changes...

Shell accounts have been moved from axe.netdoor.com to a new dedicated machine. You can access your account by telnetting to home.netdoor.com.
